The Changing Gladstone Region Landscape

The forethought invested in planning Wiggins Island has resulted in a well designed and purposely situated facility sympathetic to both the marine and land-based environments.

While the building structures will be visible from different areas of Gladstone,
their design is similar to those already in place and a vegetation plan has been
developed to provide screening and environmental support.

To compensate for any land clearing required Gladstone Ports Corporation will provide vegetation offsets including the rehabilitation of land and the conservation of key areas .

Loss of marine plants through wharf development activities will be offset by the rehabilitation of mangrove, saltmarsh and seagrass beds as identified by the Department of Fisheries in the Port Curtis Region. The original reclamation plans included reclaiming Wiggins island and Mud island - both Islands will now be preserved and will remain in their pristine state.

The Wiggins Island Coal Terminal will be a global leader in its design and operation.
