Wiggins Island Coal Terminal is on the drawing board as a global project of significance that will literally help power the world.
Demand for an efficient and well-priced energy source is driving Australia’s highly successful coal export market. The Port of Gladstone alone exported more than 50million tonnes of coal in 2006/07.
The product might be black, but it is increasingly taking on a green approach due to developments in clean coal technology.
Work on Stage 1 of the 25 million tonnes per year terminal is scheduled to begin in 2009.
The facts:
- Green offsets, green technology and the most stringent environmental policies have been employed to ensure the Wiggins Island Coal Terminal is clean and an asset to the Gladstone community
- 650 people will be employed during construction and 130 during Stage 1 operations
